Sun, Dec 8, 2024 No Event(s) Scheduled For Selected Date Women's Hockey Falls in 2010-11 Season Opener By: Kevin Meinholz, Sports Information Director WINONA, Minn. (UWECBlugolds.com) - Despite being down just one goal after the first period, the UW-Eau Claire women's hockey team gave up three in the second period and couldn't come back in a 4-1 loss at St. Mary's University (Minn.) tonight. In the opening period, St. Mary’s scored an even strength goal at 12:38. The Cardinals then added to their lead with a power-play goal at 8:13. Just over five minutes later, St. Mary’s added another while picking up its fourth 41 seconds before the end of the second period. The Blugolds came out strong in the third period and scored just 33 seconds into the final period. Christine Dickinson (Sr.-Layton, Utah/Shattuck-St. Mary's) found the back of the net on an assist from Kristin Faber (Sr.-Austin, Minn.). The goal was the only one the Blugolds would finish with, however. Eau Claire outshot the Cardinals 26-19 while the teams were even in penalties with seven each. Jordyn Quiring (Fr.-Calgary, Alberta/Edge School) was given the loss in the net as she gave up four goals in just under 40 minutes of play. She stopped five shots while Mara Stormer (So.-Waunakee, Wis.) was in the game 20 minutes, collecting 10 saves in the final period. Eau Claire is now 0-1 on the season while St. Mary’s is 3-0. All-time, the Blugolds lead the series 10-9 against the Cardinals but have lost the previous two meetings. The Blugolds will try and get revenge tomorrow night when they open home action with a game against St. Mary’s at Hobbs Ice Center. The puck is set to drop at 7 p.m. The Blugold hockey program and head coach Mike Collins are both seeking their 100th win. |
