Women's Hockey Wins Fourth Straight
Posted: Saturday, January 8, 2005
EAU CLAIRE - Laura Brackey (Jr. -Oakdale, MN/Tartan) scored the game-winning goal in the second period as the UW-Eau Claire women's hockey team won its fourth straight game, a 2-1 victory over Bethel (MN) here tonight at Hobbs Ice Arena.
The Blugolds improve to 7-3-1 on the season while Bethel falls to 1-7-0 overall.
Eau Claire was the first on the board via a Laura Suppes (So.-Falcon Heights, MNRoseville) even strength goal with 6:40 remaining in the first period. Amanda Schultz (Jr.-Stevens Point/SPASH) and Martina Korinek (So.-White Bear Lake, MN) tallied assists on the goal. The remainder of the first period was skated without a goal and the Blugolds took a 1-0 lead into the intermission.
It took the Royals just eight seconds into the second period to tie the game as Lisa Kinney scored an even strength goal to knot the game. Brackey and the Blugolds would have the last laugh, however, as Brackey scored an unassisted goal with 8:45 left in the second for the game-winner. Blugold goalie Jill Arendt (Fr.-Plymouth, MN/Wayzata) held the Royals scoreless the rest of the way to earn the win. She made nine saves on the night.
Eau Claire pummeled the Royals with 41 shots while Bethel managed just 10. The two teams combined for just one penalty on the night.
The Blugolds will be back in action next Friday when they host UW-River Falls at 7:05 p.m. at Hobbs Ice Arena.
