EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (UWECBlugolds.com) - The UW-Eau Claire soccer team recorded a 2-1 victory over Augsburg College (Minn.) at the Bollinger Fields today.

The game was tightly played the entire way with Eau Claire putting up 15 shots to Augsburg’s 10. But the Blugolds were able to prevail by scoring a goal in each half.

Eau Claire got on the board first after Kara Ryan (Fr.-Plymouth, Minn./Robbinsdale Armstrong) found the back of the next on an assist from Megan Hillesheim (Sr.-Ham Lake, Minn./Blaine). The goal came from 25 yards out and started with a Blugold free kick.

In the second half, Augsburg came out on a mission and scored just two minutes in to tie the game. But, the Blugolds held strong and answered six minutes later. Allie Stone (Fr.-Madison, Wis./Verona Area) recorded the eventual game-winner, with assists from Gina Williams (So.-Madison, Wis./Verona) and Jamie Schiesel (Sr.-Plymouth, Minn./Armstrong).

The Blugolds also had another excellent opportunity to score with less than four minutes to play. Paige LeGate (Fr.-Green Bay, Wis./Bay Port) took a shot and the goalie made a diving save while Ali Mater (Sr.-Elm Grove, Wis./Brookfield East) took the rebound and shot, but it deflected off the post.

Amanda Hakala (So.-Stillwater, Minn./Stillwater Area) made six saves, playing 90 minutes in-goal. The Auggies had seven shots on-goal, the most an opponent has accumulated against the Blugolds since October 17, 2009.

Augsburg’s Katie Gajewski stopped seven Blugold shot while she played the entire game in the net.

Eau Claire has now won nine straight games and improves to 10-2 on the season while Augsburg drops to 3-6-2. All-time, the Blugolds are 12-0-2 against the Auggies.

The Blugolds will be off one week before their next competition. Eau Claire will be on the road for their next four games, starting with a game at UW-Superior next Wednesday. Action is set to get underway at 4 p.m.
