EAU CLAIRE - The UW-Eau Claire women's hockey team tallied two goals in the first 1:38 of the game and never looked back in a 4-0 victory over St. Mary's (MN) here tonight at Hobbs Ice Arena.

The win is the third straight for the Blugolds who improve to 6-3-1 on the season. The Cardinals fall to 4-7-0 for the year.

Crystal Wasem (Jr.-Chaska) wasted little time putting Eau Claire on the board as she took a pass from Laura Brackey (Jr.-Oakdale, MN/Tartan) and found the back of the net just 23 seconds into the game. The goal was the first of the year for the defensive player.

Amber Stevenson (So.-Eagan) gave the Blugolds a two goal cushion just 1:38 into the contest when she scored an unassisted goal. The goal was also the first of the year for Stevenson.

The Blugolds again found the net early in the second period, when Amanda Schultz (Jr.-Stevens Point/SPASH) scored just 1:31 into the period. The goal was her team-leading 10th of the season and was assisted by Allison Timberg (So.-Tonka Bay, MN/Minnetonka). Brackey scored her second goal of the season 5:30 into the second period to round out the scoring at 4-0. The final goal was assisted by Karen Hebert (So.-Lakeville, MN/Holy Angels).

Blugold goalie Jill Arendt (Fr.-Plymouth, MN/Wayzata) stopped all 15 shots that came her way for the shutout. She is 6-3-1 in goal this season.

Eau Claire finished with 30 shots on goal to the Cardinals' 15.

The Blugolds will be back in action tomorrow night when they host Bethel at 7:05 p.m. at Hobbs Ice Arena.
