Wed, May 22, 2013 No Event(s) Scheduled For Selected Date Women's Tennis Award Winners Announced By: Kevin Meinholz, Sports Information Director EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (UWECBlugolds.com) - UW-Eau Claire women's tennis head coach Craig Monson has announced the team award winners for the 2009-10 season. Named the singles MVP was Megan Born (So.-Antigo, Wis.). She finished the season with a 22-4 singles record, playing primarily in the No. 3 spot. At the WIAC Championship in the fall, she came in second place at No. 3 singles and No. 3 doubles. For the second year in a row, Brenna McCormick (Sr.-Greendale, Wis.) was named the doubles MVP. She also earned the hustle award. McCormick finished the season with a 17-5 doubles record, competing mainly in the No. 2 spot. At the WIAC Championship in the fall, she came in third place at No. 2 doubles. The most improved award was presented to three players: Alyssa VanderSchaaf (Fr.-Maple Grove, Minn./Wayzata), Born and Taylor Heltne (Fr.-Inver Grove Heights, Minn./Simley), who was 15-3 in single play and 17-5 in doubles competition. Gina Dahl (Sr.-Fort Atkinson, Wis.) won the Blugold Award for the second straight year, while Erin Welch (Sr.-Tomah, Wis.) earned the Coach's Award for the second year in a row. Dahl finished the season with a 12-12 singles and 11-13 doubles record while Welch was 19-7 in singles play and 16-5 in doubles. |
