Track & Field to be Represented Well at NCAA Championships By: Kevin Meinholz, Sports Information Director INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (UWECBlugolds.com) - The UW-Eau Claire men's and women's track and field teams are set to compete this weekend in the 2010 NCAA Division III Outdoor Championships at Baldwin-Wallace College in Berea, Ohio. The Blugold women, who finished fourth at nationals last season, will compete in eight events this season while the men, who tied for 18th last year, will compete in three. In the 3,000-meter steeplechase, Hannah Humbach (Sr.-Madison, Wis./Abundant Life) and Alyssa Sybilrud (So.-Savage, Minn./Burnsville) will compete for the women as will Chris Wirtz (Sr.-Weston, Wis./D.C. Everest) on the men's side. All three automatically qualified for the event while Wirtz has the top time in the nation (8:56.98), a mark that is nearly nine seconds faster than anyone else this year. In distance events, Humbach will also compete in the 5,000-meter run while Kevin Hall (Sr.-Green Bay, Wis./Preble) will race in the 10,000-meter run for the men. Also on the track, Erin Schoenfelder (Fr.-Antioch, Ill./Antioch Community) will compete in the 400-meter hurdles. Both the Blugold men and women will also compete in 4x400-meter relays. In the field, the Blugold women will compete in four events. Hayley Suckow (Sr.-Elk Mound, Wis.) will participate in the pole vault while Brittany Frederick (So.-Green Bay, Wis./Preble) will compete in the shot put, discus throw and hammer throw. Frederick has the second best mark in the nation this season in the discus throw. This year's championship will begin Thursday and will finish Saturday. |
