Women's Track and Field Has Strong Showing at Last Chance Meets By: BJ Pickard, Sports Information Student ROCK ISLAND, Ill. (UWECBlugolds.com) - The UW-Eau Claire women's outdoor track and field team finished the regular season by competing in two last chance meets in an effort to qualify a few more competitors for next week's Division III national championship meet. On Thursday, the team competed at UW-La Crosse in the La Crosse Last Chance before traveling to Illinois for the Augustana Last Chance meet Friday. In La Crosse, Kelly Palmer (Jr.-Chanhassen, Minn./Chaska) provisionally qualified for nationals in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 11:09.01. In the 1,500-meter run, Hannah Humbach (Sr.-Madison, Wis./Abundant Life) and Alyssa Sybilrud (So.-Savage, Minn./Burnsville) provisionally qualified with times of 4:33.16 and 4:33.39, respectively. Maria Peloquin (Jr.-Prescott, Wis.) provisionally qualified in the 800-meter run, finishing in 2:14.64. Erin Schoenfelder (Fr.-Antioch, Ill./Antioch Community) and Corinna Saager (Jr.-Wausau, Wis./East) both provisionally qualified in the 400-meter hurdles with times of 1:02.91 and 1:03.41, respectively. The 4x100-meter relay team also came away with a provisional qualification, finishing in 48.29. In the field, Lindsey Haller (So.-Hartland, Wis./Arrowhead) provisionally qualified in the shot put with a toss of 12.95 meters. The Blugolds also competed in Friday's Last Chance meet at Augustana College (Ill.); however, despite coming away with individual finalists, no new qualifiers were crowned at the competition. The team travels next week to Berea, Ohio for the NCAA Division III Outdoor National Championship. Baldwin-Wallace College and the Greater Cleveland Sports Commission will play host from May 27-29 for the meet on Tressel Field at Finnie Stadium. The national anthem is scheduled for 11:50 a.m. on Thursday with events beginning at noon. |
