(UWECBlugolds.com) - The UW-Eau Claire women's golf team is currently tied for second place out of 20 teams after round one of the NCAA Division III Championship at Mission Inn Golf and Tennis Resort. The third-ranked Blugolds are tied with second-ranked Gustavus Adolphus College (Minn.) with 331 strokes (+39). Twelve-time defending national champion Methodist University (N.C.) leads the field after shooting 317 today. Torie Ives (Sr.-Osseo, Wis./Osseo-Fairchild) started the day slow, shooting 44 (+8) on the front nine but finished strong on the back nine with a 35 (-2). She leads the Blugolds with 79 strokes and is in a six-way tie for seventh place in the 105-golfer field. Katie Maurer (So.-Forest Lake, Minn./Convent of the Visitation) shot 81 today and is tied for 15th while Lauren Gault (So.-Shorewood, Wis.) is tied for 29th with 85 strokes. Catherine Wagner (Fr.-Austin, Minn.) came in with 86 strokes, tied for 33rd, while Emily Swift (So.-Onalaska, Wis.) finished with 87 strokes, tied for 39th. Methodist's Paige Caldwell and Natalie Matuszak of St. Mary's College (Ind.) are tied for first place with 76 strokes. The second round of the four-round championship will get underway at 8 a.m. (Eastern) tomorrow. The Blugolds will begin teeing off at 8:50 a.m. (Eastern). |
