Men's Golf Qualifies For NCAA Championship
By: Kevin Meinholz, Sports Information Director
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - The UW-Eau Claire men's golf team has been selected to compete in the 2010 NCAA Division III Championships, the NCAA announced today.
The championships will be held May 11-14, at the Hershey Links and Hershey Country Club, in Hershey, Pennsylvania. The championships will be hosted by Elizabethtown College.
The Blugolds head back to the championship after not competing last season. Eau Claire last competed in the championship in 2008 and finished in 23rd place overall. From 1998-2008, the Blugolds missed nationals just once and had their highest finish in 2001 when they won the national title.
A total of 190 participants will compete at the 2010 championships. Twenty-seven conferences were awarded automatic qualification for the championships. Seven teams were selected from Pool B, which consists of independent institutions, and institutions that are members of conferences that do not meet the requirements for automatic qualification. The final three berths were reserved for Pool C, which are institutions from automatic-qualifying conferences that are not the conference champion and any remaining Pool B teams. The top five individuals are selected from the remaining players who have not qualified with a team.
UW-Eau Claire was one of seven Pool B teams selected while UW-Stout also qualified.
