Women's Golf Takes Second at Home Invitational

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (UWECBlugolds.com) - The UW-Eau Claire women's golf team took second out of 12 teams while the Blugolds' second team was fourth at the UW-Eau Claire Spring Invitational at Wild Ridge Golf Course this weekend.

The second place squad ended up at 63 over par on the weekend, totaling 647 strokes, beating out St. Olaf College (Minn.), who placed third at 84 over par (668). Gustavus Adolphus College (Minn.) took first place honors at 43 over par (627). The Blugolds' second team shot 675 (+91) for the tournament.

Individually, the Blugolds finished with two competitors in the top ten and seven in the top 15.

Torie Ives (Sr.-Osseo, Wis./Osseo-Fairchild) placed sixth overall, recording 82 strokes on day one and 79 on day two for a total of 161 strokes, 15 over par on the weekend to lead the Blugolds. Lauren Gault (So.-Shorewood, Wis.) tied for seventh at plus 17 with 163 strokes.

Katie Maurer (So.-Forest Lake, Minn./Convent of the Visitation) and Catherine Wagner (Fr.-Austin, Minn.) tied for 11th place with 165 strokes, 19 over par, while Emily Swift (So.-Onalaska, Wis.), Katie Swift (Jr.-Onalaska, Wis.) and Maggie Lattery (So.-Lake Nebagamon, Wis./Northwestern) tied for 14th place at plus 20. Katie Swift and Lattery golfed for the Blugolds' second team.

The Blugolds will take a week off before traveling to Howey-in-the-Hills, Fla. for the NCAA Division III Championship. The Blugolds earned an automatic bid to the championship after winning the WIAC Championship last fall. Tee offs will begin on Tuesday, May 11 at 7 a.m.
