Thu, May 23, 2013 No Event(s) Scheduled For Selected Date Men's Hockey Hands out Team Awards By: Kevin Meinholz, Sports Information Director EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (UWECBlugolds.com) - UW-Eau Claire men's hockey head coach Matt Loen recently announced the team award winners for the 2009-10 season. The Jeff Jaraceski award for the team's MVP was presented to Joe Bluhm (Sr.-Red Wing, Minn.). He led Eau Claire with 21 points this season, coming from nine goals and 12 assists. Three of his goals came on power plays while he scored one game-winner. Bluhm was named an All-WIAC first team selection, along with an honorable mention All-NCHA recipient this season. D.J. Clark (Sr.-Blaine, Minn./Spring Lake Park) won the team's Richard G. O'Brien award, given to an individual for work ethic both on and off the ice. Clark was selected to the NCHA All-Academic Team for the third time in his career and had 13 points this year, coming from five goals and eight assists. Three of his goals came on power-plays while one was unassisted. His 13 points was fifth best on the team. For the third year in a row, defenseman Nicholas Kuqali (Sr.-Pittsburgh, Pa./Mount Lebanon) earned the team's most dedicated award. Kuqali played in 25 games this year and had seven points, coming from two goals and five assists. He was part of a defense that allowed 780 shots while the Blugolds had 842. Isaiah Bennis (Fr.-Eau Claire, Wis./Memorial) was presented with the Wally Akervik Freshman of the Year award. Bennis earned honorable mention All-WIAC honors this season as he was third on the team with 16 points. He had a team-high 11 goals. Next year's captains were also announced at the banquet and they will be John Kearns (Jr.-Park Ridge, Ill./Maine South), Tyler Jundt and Andrew McCabe. |
