EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (UWECBlugolds.com) - UW-Eau Claire women's basketball head coach Tonja Englund recently announced the team award winners for the 2009-10 season.

Hannah Mesick (Jr.-Chatfield, Minn.) was named the team's most valuable player and also earned a captain's award. A first team All-WIAC selection, she led the Blugolds and was second in the conference in scoring with 17.8 points per game. She also averaged 8.8 rebounds per game, which led the Blugolds and ranked third in the WIAC. Mesick also earned D3hoops.com All -Central Region second team honors this year.

This year's rookie of the year was Sarah Bingea (Fr.-Delano, Minn.). She started all 27 games and was second on the team with 9.4 points per game while she was fourth with 3.9 rebounds per game. Bingea led the team from the free throw line with an average of 85.5 percent (53-for-62).

Winning the most improved award was Laura Olson (So.-Osseo, Wis./Osseo-Fairchild). She played in just eight games a season ago but played in 27, starting 26, this season. Olson was third on the team with nine points per game while she scored a team-high 60 three-pointers.

Jodi Lindner (Sr.-Neillsville, Wis.) earned the defensive player of the year award while also winning a captains award. She played in 25 of the Blugolds' 27 games this year and averaged 3.5 points per contest. Lindner was second on the team with 76 assists and third in both steals and rebounds per game.

The Blugold award was presented to Ali Gillberg (Sr.-Drummond, Wis.). She played in seven games for the Blugolds this season to wrap up her career.
