EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (UWECBlugolds.com) - UW-Eau Claire men's basketball head coach Terry Gibbons recently announced the team award winners for the 2009-10 season.

Geoff Probst (Sr.-Moose Lake, Minn.) was selected as the team's most valuable player while earning awards for leading the Blugolds in three statistical categories. He led the Blugolds in scoring (13.2 points per game) and in rebounding (6.2 boards per game) while also finishing with the team's best three-point percentage as he shot 42.7 percent (47-for-110). Probst was a first team All-WIAC selection this season and finished his career with 1,064 points, which ranks 30th on the Blugolds' all-time scoring list. He was also the co-recipient of the captain's award with Colin Boone (Sr.-Eau Claire, Wis./Memorial), who earned an award for leading the team with 100 assists.

Earning the newcomer of the year and fireman awards was Marcus Ruh (Fr.-Green Bay , Wis./Bay Port). He was fifth on the team in scoring with 8.7 points per game and made significant contributions offensively and defensively throughout the season. He played in all 25 games, coming off the bench.

The most improved award was given to Nick Bartlett (So.-Arden Hills, Minn./Mounds View). He started all 25 games this year and was sixth on the team with eight points per game while averaging 2.6 rebounds per game. He also led the team in free throw shooting, hitting 50 of 63 (79.4 percent). A season ago, while he played in all 26 games, he averaged just 2.4 points per contest and 0.3 rebounds per game.

Winning the inspirational award was Jordan Kappen (Sr.-Blair, Wis./Blair-Taylor) and Jacob Schlub (Sr.-Catawba, Wis./Phillips). Kappen played in 23 games and averaged 8.7 minutes per game while Schlub, who was injured most of the season, saw action in 10 games and averaged 12.5 minutes per game.

Chance Weisensel (Sr.-Alamogordo, N.M.) was presented with the dedication award. He played in 23 out of 25 games and averaged eight minutes per game.

Also presented with statistical awards were Josh Prince (So.-Chippewa Falls, Wis./Chi-Hi) and Amadou Fofana (Jr.-Appleton, Wis./West). Prince earned the steals award as he led the team with 40, along with the purple heart, for taking 10 charges during the course of the year. Fofana earned the field goal percentage award for going 152-for-246 (61.8 percent).
