Men's Tennis Bounces Back with Two Wins in La Crosse

LA CROSSE, Wis. (UWECBlugolds.com) - One day after suffering a tough loss to UW-La Crosse, the UW-Eau Claire men's tennis team bounced back to pick up two wins at the Veterans Memorial Courts today.
The Blugolds, ranked 10th in the central region, opened the day with a 9-0 victory over UW-Oshkosh and then defeated UW-Whitewater, ranked 11th in the central region, 7-2 to close the day. The wins helped the Blugolds secure the Wisconsin Final Four Tournament victory as they went 2-1 over the last two days.
Four Blugolds picked up two singles wins today.
In the No. 2 spot, Phil Loprinzi (Sr.-Rochester, Minn./Mayo) won 6-2, 6-3 against Oshkosh while picking up a 6-3, 7-5 victory against his Whitewater opponent.
At No. 3, Lars Olson (Jr.-De Pere, Wis.) won 7-6, 6-3 over Oshkosh but played a close match against Whitewater, coming out on top 5-7, 7-6, 10-6.
Kevin Fawcett (Sr.-Madison, Wis./Verona) recorded a 6-1, 6-3 win over his Oshkosh opponent and a 6-1, 6-0 win over Whitewater in the No. 4 spot.
In the No. 5 spot, Eric Wollum (Jr.-Eau Claire, Wis./Memorial) secured a 6-4, 6-1 win over Oshkosh and a 6-4, 6-2 victory over UW-Whitewater.
In doubles action, the Blugolds swept both teams. Loprinzi and Kuna, ranked eighth in the region, had the Blugolds' largest margin of victory with an 8-2 win over their Whitewater counterparts.
The Blugolds will be back at home next Sunday (April 25) as they face the College of St. Scholastica. Action will get underway at noon.
