Sat, May 25, 2013 No Event(s) Scheduled For Selected Date Women's Tennis Defeats UW-Stout 8-1 By: Kevin Meinholz, Sports Information Director MENOMONIE, Wis. (UWECBlugolds.com) - The UW-Eau Claire women's tennis team beat UW-Stout 8-1, dropping only the No. 1 singles match today. Eau Claire, which also defeated UW-Stout 8-1 last fall, improves to 18-3 on the season while the Blue Devils fall to 3-12. In singles action, Megan Born (So.-Antigo, Wis.), Courtney Lynne (Sr.-Rochester, Minn./Mayo) and Michelle Reinders (Jr.-Hartland, Wis./Arrowhead) all won in straight sets without giving up a game. At No. 2 singles, Brenna McCormick (Sr.-Greendale, Wis.) won 6-1, 6-0 while Erin Welch (Sr.-Tomah, Wis.) picked up a 6-2, 6-0 victory at No. 4. In doubles play, Born and Taylor Heltne (Fr.-Inver Grove Heights, Minn./Simley) along, with McCormick and Gretchen Bachmeier (Fr.-Eau Claire, Wis./North) recorded 8-1 wins at No. 2 and No. 3, respectively. Winning in the No. 1 spot 8-6 was the duo of Gina Dahl (Sr.-Fort Atkinson, Wis.) and Lynne. Next Saturday the Blugolds head to Whitewater for the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference's automatic qualifier tournament, which will determine the conference's automatic qualifier for the NCAA Division III tournament. The Blugolds will kick off action against UW-La Crosse at 9 a.m. |
