Women's Track & Field Finishes Third at Phil Esten Challenge By: Kevin Meinholz, Sports Information Director LA CROSSE, Wis. (UWECBlugolds.com) - The UW-Eau Claire women's track & field team took third place out of eight teams at the Phil Esten Challenge at UW-La Crosse today. The Blugolds finished with 116 points while Winona State University (Minn.) won with 219 and the Eagles were second with 187.50. In fourth place was Wartburg College (Iowa) with 99 and UW-River Falls was fifth with 98.50. Eau Claire had 10 finishes of third place or better on the day with three Blugolds winning events. Erin Schoenfelder (Fr.-Antioch, Ill./Antioch Community) won the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 15.19, Brittany Frederick (So.-Green Bay, Wis./Preble) won the hammer throw with a toss of 51.76 meters (169-10) and Hayley Suckow (Sr.-Elk Mound, Wis.) won the pole vault with a height of 3.70 meters (12-1.5). Frederick and Suckow's marks were NCAA Division III provisional qualifying marks. Frederick also had a second place finish in the discus throw with a toss of 44.58 meters (146-3), another provisional qualifying mark. Also with a second place finish was Corinna Saager (Jr.-Wausau, Wis./East) in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:07.13. With third place finishes were Ashlyn Mauer (Fr.-Sheboygan Falls, Wis.) (3,000-meter steeplechase), Kelly Palmer (Jr.-Chanhassen, Minn./Chaska) (1,500-meter run), Talisa Emberts (So.-Sussex, Wis./Sussex-Hamilton) (400-meter dash) and Lindsey Haller (So.-Hartland, Wis./Arrowhead) (shot put). The 4x100-meter relay team also finished third. The Blugolds will be in action again next weekend at four different meets. |
