Men's Track & Field Takes Second at Phil Esten Challenge By: Kevin Meinholz, Sports Information Director LA CROSSE, Wis. (UWECBlugolds.com) - The UW-Eau Claire men's track & field team took second place out of seven teams at the Phil Esten Challenge at UW-La Crosse today. The Blugolds finished with 180.50 points while the Eagles won with 259.50. In third place was UW-Stout with 138 and UW-River Falls was fourth with 51. Eau Claire had 11 finishes of third place or better on the day. The 4x100-meter relay team won with a time of 42.67, the Blugolds' top time in the event so far this season. The Blugolds also won the 4x400-meter relay with a time of 3:23.56. Individually, Adam Flyte (Sr.-Fort Atkinson, Wis.) had the top time in the 800-meter run as he finished in 1:55.48. Corrie Floyd (Sr.-Whitewater, Wis.) won the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 57.51 while Mitch Sebranek (So.-Hillsoboro, Wis./Hillsboro) was second with a time of 57.96. Also with second place finishes today were Paul Hetke (Fr.-Chetek, Wis.) in the 1,500-meter run with a time of 4:00.68, Michael Borglin (Fr.-Whitewater, Wis.) in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 15:50.00 and Jae Erickson (Jr.-Green Bay, Wis./Ashwaubenon) in the pole vault with a height of 4.71 meters (15-5.5), an NCAA Division III provisional qualifying mark. Taking third place spots were Kirk Schmidt (Jr.-Athens, Wis.) (long jump), Austin Heath (So.-Viroqua, Wis.) (100-meter dash) and Sebranek (110-meter hurdles). The Blugolds will be in action again next weekend at four different meets. |
