Men's Tennis Falls just Short to La Crosse

LA CROSSE, Wis. (UWECBlugolds.com) - The UW-Eau Claire men's tennis team came up just short to UW-La Crosse at the Veterans Memorial Courts, falling 5-4 today.
The Blugolds, who had not lost to the Eagles since 2003, are now 20-5 on the season while La Crosse improves to 17-4.
Eric Wollum (Jr.-Eau Claire, Wis./Memorial) and Dirk Van Rybroek (So.-Madison, Wis./Edgewood) recorded the Blugolds' lone victory in doubles play, defeating Paul Vickers and Jon Mahvi 9-8 in the No. 3 spot.
On the singles side, Wollum won in straight sets 6-4, 6-1, playing at No. 5.
The other two Blugold wins were more closely contested. At No. 1 singles, Chris Kuna (So.-Edina, Minn.) won 3-6, 6-1, 6-2 while Kevin Fawcett (Sr.-Madison, Wis./Verona) won 3-6, 7-6, 7-5 in the No. 4 spot.
Eau Claire will compete two more times tomorrow, facing UW-Oshkosh and UW-Whitewater in La Crosse.
