Sun, May 19, 2013 No Event(s) Scheduled For Selected Date Women's Tennis Loses Just one Match in Win over Falcons By: Kevin Meinholz, Sports Information Director EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (UWECBlugolds.com) - The UW-Eau Claire women's tennis team dropped just one match as it defeated UW-River Falls 8-1 at the Ade Olson Courts today. With the win, the Blugolds improve to 17-3 on the season while the Falcons fall to 7-7. Last fall the Blugolds also defeated the Falcons 8-1. The Blugolds easily handled the Falcons in every spot but No. 1 singles. Gina Dahl (Sr.-Fort Atkinson, Wis.) and Jenny Paxton played close in the No. 1 spot but while Dahl won 7-5 in the first set, Paxton went on to take the match 6-4 and 10-8. Also in singles, Megan Born (So.-Antigo, Wis.) didn't give up a game, winning 6-0, 6-0 at No. 3 while Taylor Heltne (Fr.-Inver Grove Heights, Minn./Simley) picked up the 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 5. Brenna McCormick (Sr.-Greendale, Wis.), Erin Welch (Sr.-Tomah, Wis.) and Gretchen Bachmeier (Fr.-Eau Claire, Wis./North) also won singles matches for the Blugolds. The three gave up just 11 games combined as all won in straight sets. In doubles action, Dahl and Courtney Lynne (Sr.-Rochester, Minn./Mayo) won 8-1 in the No. 1 position while the pair of McCormick and Welch won at No. 2 8-2 and Emily Hiebl (So.-Wausau, Wis./East) and Emily Knudson (So.-Delano, Minn.) won with the same score in the at No. 3. Tomorrow the Blugolds will head to Menomonie to face UW-Stout. Competition will get started at 9 a.m. |
