Women's Track Has Strong Showing at UW-Platteville Invitational By: BJ Pickard, Sports Information Student PLATTEVILLE, Wis. (UWECBlugolds.com) - The UW-Eau Claire women's track and field team competed in Saturday's UW-Platteville Invitational. Because there were a handful of Division I redshirts in competition, no team scores were recorded for the meet. However, Eau Claire still had several top finishers. On the track, three Blugolds came away with first place finishes. In the 800-meter run, Maria Peloquin (Jr.-Prescott, Wis.) took first with a time of 2:17.64, more than three seconds ahead of the rest of the field. In the 5,000-meter run, Hannah Humbach (Sr.-Madison, Wis./Abundant Life) placed first with a time of 17:26.17. Teammate Elly Prunty (Jr.-Antigo, Wis.) was right behind, taking second place in 17:27.66. In the 400-meter hurdles, Erin Schoenfelder (Fr.-Antioch, Ill./Antioch Community) placed first with a time of 1:05.89, while Bridget Sarafin (So.-Stanley, Wis./Stanley-Boyd) took second at 1:06.78. In the field, Brittany Frederick (So.-Green Bay, Wis./Preble) placed second in the discus throw with a toss of 44.44 meters (145-10), while Heidi Anderson (Fr.-Baraboo, Wis.) took third in the javelin throw, recording a throw of 31.59 meters (103-8). The Blugolds next compete on Friday, April 16 in the Phil Esten Challenge at UW-La Crosse. Events are scheduled to begin at 3 p.m. |
