Sat, May 18, 2013 No Event(s) Scheduled For Selected Date Men's Tennis Rolls Over Wartburg By: BJ Pickard, Sports Information Student EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (UWECBlugolds.com) - The UW-Eau Claire men's tennis team defeated Wartburg College (Iowa) 8-1 in Friday afternoon's matchup at the Ade Olson Courts. The Blugolds swept singles competition. Chris Kuna (So.-Edina, Minn.) won a tough fight for No. 1 singles 5-7, 6-2, 10-4. Phil Loprinzi (Sr.-Rochester, Minn./Mayo) took the No. 2 spot 6-0, 6-2. Lars Olson (Jr.-De Pere, Wis.) won at No. 3 4-6, 7-5, 10-6. Kevin Fawcett (Sr.-Madison, Wis./Verona) had a strong showing at No. 4 singles, taking the match 6-1, 6-0, while Eric Wollum (Jr.-Eau Claire, Wis./Memorial) handled the No. 5 spot with ease, winning 6-0, 6-0. Ben Robertson (Fr.-Plymouth, Minn./Robbinsdale Armstrong) won 6-0, 6-1 in the No. 6 spot. In doubles play, Fawcett and Olson took the No. 2 spot 8-0 while Wollum and Dirk Van Rybroek (So.-Madison, Wis./Edgewood) won at No. 3 8-3. The 13th-ranked squad in the region, Eau Claire improves to 19-4 on the year. The team will return to action tomorrow when they square off with Wheaton College (Ill.) at Ade Olson Courts. The event is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. |
