Tue, May 21, 2013 No Event(s) Scheduled For Selected Date Women's Tennis Beats Wartburg 7-2 By: Kevin Meinholz, Sports Information Director EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (UWECBlugolds.com) - The UW-Eau Claire women's tennis team defeated Wartburg College (Iowa) 7-2 at the Ade Olson Courts today. The Blugolds have won eight competitions in a row to improve to 16-3 on the season. Wartburg drops to 15-7 overall. Eau Claire won two out of three doubles competitions, recording victories at No. 2 and No. 3. Brenna McCormick (Sr.-Greendale, Wis.) and Erin Welch (Sr.-Tomah, Wis.) won 8-5 at No. 2 while Megan Born (So.-Antigo, Wis.) and Taylor Heltne (Fr.-Inver Grove Heights, Minn./Simley) won 8-2 at No. 3. In singles play, the Blugolds dropped just the No. 6 match. Heltne fell just once as she won 6-1, 6-0 at No. 5 while Welch won 6-2, 6-0 at No. 4 and Born won 6-3, 6-0 in the No. 3 spot. Welch has now won nine straight matches while Heltne has won eight consecutive. The No. 1 and No. 2 singles matches were contested more closely but the Blugolds came out on top in both. Gina Dahl (Sr.-Fort Atkinson, Wis.) picked up a 6-3, 1-6, 10-5 win at No. 1 and McCormick won 5-7, 7-5, 10-3 in the No. 2 spot. Eau Claire will compete in an exhibition match Friday night against the University of Minnesota Club Team at the YMCA Tennis Center. The Blugolds' next dual meet will be against UW-River Falls at home. Action will get underway next Friday at 3 p.m. |
