Fri, May 24, 2013 No Event(s) Scheduled For Selected Date Men's Tennis Bounces Back with 8-1 win over Warner By: Kevin Meinholz, Sports Information Director LAKE WALES, Fla. (UWECBlugolds.com) - After falling for the first time since February 20 last night, the UW-Eau Claire men's tennis team bounced back with an 8-1 victory over Warner University (Fla.) today. The regionally-ranked Blugolds improve to 18-3 on the season while Warner drops to 1-9. Eau Claire swept singles competition. Chris Kuna (So.-Edina, Minn.) didn't give up a single game, winning in straight sets 6-0, 6-0 in the No. 2 spot. At No. 6, Florent Marco (Fr.-Eau Claire, Wis./Memorial) won 6-2, 6-0 while Eric Wollum (Jr.-Eau Claire, Wis./Memorial) picked up a 6-3, 6-3 win at No. 5 and Lars Olson (Jr.-De Pere, Wis.) won 6-4, 6-3 at No. 3. Phil Loprinzi (Sr.-Rochester, Minn./Mayo) and Kevin Fawcett (Sr.-Madison, Wis./Verona) had closer matches but each came out on top. At No. 1, Loprinzi won 7-5, 4-6, 6-1 while Fawcett picked up a 1-6, 6-1, 6-3 win at No. 4. In doubles play, Kuna and Loprinzi won 8-1 in the No. 1 spot while Wollum and Dirk Van Rybroek (So.-Madison, Wis./Edgewood) recorded an 8-5 victory at No. 3. The Blugolds will wrap up their spring break trip tomorrow facing the University of West Alabama. |
