(UWECBlugolds.com) - The UW-Eau Claire women's tennis team won its sixth consecutive dual meet with a 6-3 victory over St. Mary's University (Minn.) on the third day of its spring break trip to Florida today. The Blugolds (14-3) had a tough time in doubles competition today, winning just one of the three matches. The No. 2 doubles pair of Brenna McCormick (Sr.-Greendale, Wis.) and Erin Welch (Sr.-Tomah, Wis.) was the lone winner for Eau Claire with an 8-0 victory. In singles play, the Blugolds came back by winning five out of their six matches. McCormick dropped her first set in the No. 2 spot 4-6 but went on to win the next two 6-4, 10-4. Megan Born (So.-Antigo, Wis.) recorded a 6-3, 6-4 victory at No. 3 while Welch picked up a 6-2, 6-4 win at No. 4. Taylor Heltne (Fr.-Inver Grove Heights, Minn./Simley) gave up just three games as she won 6-2, 6-1 in the No. 5 spot and Michelle Reinders (Jr.-Hartland, Wis./Arrowhead) had a 7-5, 6-3 victory at No. 6. Eau Claire will be off Wednesday and will wrap up its spring break trip Thursday with competition against the University of West Alabama. |
