Wed, May 22, 2013 No Event(s) Scheduled For Selected Date Men's Tennis Picks up Two Wins on Spring Break Trip By: Kevin Meinholz, Sports Information Director ORLANDO, Fla. (UWECBlugolds.com) - The UW-Eau Claire men's tennis team dropped just one match while recording two dual meet wins on the second day of its spring break trip to Orlando. In the day's first dual, the Blugolds beat St. Olaf College (Minn.) 8-1 while they defeated Hamline University (Minn.) 9-0 later in the day. Eau Claire, ranked 13th regionally, is now 17-2 on the season and has won 14 dual meets in a row. Chris Kuna (So.-Edina, Minn.), Phil Loprinzi (Sr.-Rochester, Minn./Mayo), Kevin Fawcett (Sr.-Madison, Wis./Verona), Lars Olson (Jr.-De Pere, Wis.) and Eric Wollum (Jr.-Eau Claire, Wis./Memorial) all picked up two wins in singles competition today. Wollum competed twice in the No. 5 singles spot and gave up just three games against his Hamline opponent, the fewest losses by a Blugold for the day, as he went on to win 6-1, 6-2. Earlier in the day, he picked up a 6-1, 4-6, 6-2 against his St. Olaf opponent. Florent Marco (Fr.-Eau Claire, Wis./Memorial) saw action at No. 6 singles against St. Olaf and played a close match but came out with the win, 3-6, 6-3, 7-5. Ben Robertson (Fr.-Plymouth, Minn./Robbinsdale Armstrong) was in the No. 6 spot against Hamline and won 6-3, 6-1. The only match the Blugolds lost came at No. 2 doubles against St. Olaf. Kuna and Loprinzi, along with Dirk Van Rybroek (So.-Madison, Wis./Edgewood) and Wollum, won twice today at No. 1 and No. 3 doubles, respectively. The Blugolds will compete again tomorrow when they face Webber International (Fla.). |
