Fri, May 24, 2013 No Event(s) Scheduled For Selected Date Women's Tennis Wins Two More in Florida By: Kevin Meinholz, Sports Information Director ORLANDO, Fla. (UWECBlugolds.com) - The UW-Eau Claire women's tennis team picked up two more wins on the second day of its spring break trip to Orlando. In the day's opener, the Blugolds downed Edgewood College 7-2 while they defeated Hamline University (Minn.) 9-0 later in the day. Eau Claire is now 13-3 on the season. Brenna McCormick (Sr.-Greendale, Wis.), Megan Born (So.-Antigo, Wis.) and Erin Welch (Sr.-Tomah, Wis.) all picked up two singles victories on the day. McCormick lost just two games as she defeated Edgewood's Kelsey Steinhorst 6-0, 6-1 in the No. 1 spot while following up with a 6-1, 6-0 win against Hamline's Nora McGraw at No. 2 singles. Competing at No. 2 singles against Edgewood, Born defeated Amber Hemp 7-5, 6-1 while picking up a 6-2, 6-1 win against Kristen Kiemele of Hamline in the No. 3 spot. Welch defeated Edgewood's Shae Beckwith 6-1, 6-4 at No. 3 singles and also recorded a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 4 singles against Hamline's Nicole Krier. Courtney Lynne (Sr.-Rochester, Minn./Mayo), Michelle Reinders (Jr.-Hartland, Wis./Arrowhead), Gina Dahl (Sr.-Fort Atkinson, Wis.), Taylor Heltne (Fr.-Inver Grove Heights, Minn./Simley) and Gretchen Bachmeier (Fr.-Eau Claire, Wis./North) also picked up one win on the day in singles competition. In doubles play, Dahl and Lynne won twice with an 8-4 victory over their Edgewood counterparts and an 8-5 win over their Hamline opponents in the No. 1 spot. The Blugolds will compete again tomorrow when they face St. Mary's University (Minn.). |
