(UWECBlugolds.com) - The UW-Eau Claire men's tennis team won its 12th consecutive dual competition as it defeated St. Mary's University (Minn.) 9-0 on the first day of its spring break trip today. The Blugolds, who have not dropped a meet since February 20, improve to 15-2 on the season while St. Mary's drops to 6-7. Eau Claire dominated all of the singles matches, except in the No. 1 spot. Lars Olson (Jr.-De Pere, Wis.) played a close No. 1 singles match, falling in the first set, but finished strong to win 6-7, 6-3, 10-8. In the other five singles matches, Eau Claire lost just nine games. Phil Loprinzi (Sr.-Rochester, Minn./Mayo) recorded a 6-0, 6-0 win in the No. 2 spot while Kevin Fawcett (Sr.-Madison, Wis./Verona) won 6-0, 6-1 at No. 3. Chris Kuna (So.-Edina, Minn.) lost just two games as he went on to win 6-1, 6-1 at No. 4 and David Stingley (Fr.-St. Paul, Minn./Highland Park) finished with a 6-0, 6-2 win at No. 6. In the No. 5 match, Eric Wollum (Jr.-Eau Claire, Wis./Memorial) won 6-1, 6-3. In doubles play, Olson and Fawcett won 8-0 in the No. 2 spot while Loprinzi and Kuna, along with Dirk Van Rybroek (So.-Madison, Wis./Edgewood) and Wollum picked up 8-2 victories at No. 1 and No. 3, respectively. Loprinzi and Kuna, ranked 10th regionally, have now won 10 straight matches. The Blugolds will be back in action tomorrow with two more meets. |
