Wed, May 22, 2013 No Event(s) Scheduled For Selected Date Women's Tennis Opens Spring Break Trip with Win By: Kevin Meinholz, Sports Information Director ORLANDO, Fla. (UWECBlugolds.com) - The UW-Eau Claire women's tennis team picked up a 9-0 victory over C.W. Post (N.Y.) on the first day of its spring break trip at Star Island. In singles' play, the Blugolds gave up just seven games in four matches. The No. 5 and 6 singles' spots, along with the No. 3 doubles' spot were not played as C.W. Post only had four players competing. Brenna McCormick (Sr.-Greendale, Wis.) and Erin Welch (Sr.-Tomah, Wis.) each picked up 6-1, 6-0 wins, playing at No. 2 and No. 4, respectively. In the No. 1 spot, Gina Dahl (Sr.-Fort Atkinson, Wis.) came up with a 6-0, 6-2 win while Megan Born (So.-Antigo, Wis.) won 6-2, 6-1 at No. 3. On the doubles' side, Gretchen Bachmeier (Fr.-Eau Claire, Wis./North) and Michelle Reinders (Jr.-Hartland, Wis./Arrowhead) had the Blugolds' biggest win, finishing with an 8-0 score at No. 2 while Taylor Heltne (Fr.-Inver Grove Heights, Minn./Simley) and Courtney Lynne (Sr.-Rochester, Minn./Mayo) played a close No. 1 match but came up with a 9-8 (7-4) victory. The Blugolds will compete four more times on their spring break trip. They will take Sunday off but will be back in action with two dual meets Monday, with the first against Hamline University (Minn.) and the second against Edgewood College. |
