Sun, May 19, 2013 No Event(s) Scheduled For Selected Date Women's Tennis Wins Two in Minnesota By: BJ Pickard, Sports Information Student MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. (UWECBlugolds.com) - The UW-Eau Claire women's tennis team picked up two wins to open the 2010 spring season, defeating the College of St. Benedict (Minn.) and St. Catherine University (Minn.) Saturday. In the first match of the day, Eau Claire defeated St. Benedict 7-2. The top three singles matches were all very competitive. Gina Dahl (Sr.-Fort Atkinson, Wis.) won No. 1 singles in a tough matchup 6-2, 1-6, 10-8. Brenna McCormick (Sr.-Greendale, Wis.) took the No. 2 spot 6-3, 7-6, 7-3. Megan Born (So.-Antigo, Wis.) won No. 3 6-3, 2-6, 13-11. At the No. 4 spot, Erin Welch (Sr.-Tomah, Wis.) won 6-2, 6-1. Taylor Heltne (Fr.-Inver Grove Heights, Minn./Simley) won No. 5 singles 6-2, 6-0. In doubles play, McCormick and Welch won No. 2 8-2, while Born and Heltne won No. 3 8-1. The Blugolds had an equally impressive showing against St. Catherine as they won 7-2. Dahl again took No. 1 singles 6-1, 6-2. Born won No. 3 singles 7-5, 1-6, 10-4. Welch took No. 4 6-0, 6-3, while Heltne won No. 5 6-1, 6-0. Courtney Lynne (Sr.-Rochester, Minn./Mayo) won at the No. 6 spot 6-1, 6-3. In doubles play, the team of McCormick and Welch took the No. 2 spot 8-3, while Heltne and Born won 9-7 at No. 3. Next up, the Blugolds will travel to Orlando, Fla. for spring break, competing in five matches. |
