Wed, Jun 19, 2013 No Event(s) Scheduled For Selected Date Men's Tennis Wins Five Dual Meets on Weekend

(UWECBlugolds.com) - The UW-Eau Claire men's tennis team won five dual meets as it lost only three matches this weekend to improve to 12-2 on the season. The Blugolds won three times at home, once on Friday against St. Norbert College 9-0 and twice on Saturday with a 9-0 victory over Loras College, Iowa to start the day and an 8-1 win over Lakeland College to finish the day. Another group of Blugolds also traveled to Pella, Iowa for competition against Central College, Iowa and Buena Vista University, Iowa. Against Buena Vista, Eau Claire won 9-0 while wrapping up the trip with a 7-2 victory over Central. Eau Claire has now won nine straight dual competitions. Four Blugolds didn't give up any games in singles play as they won in straight sets 6-0, 6-0. Eric Wollum (Jr.-Eau Claire, Wis./Memorial) picked up the win at No. 2 singles against Buena Vista while Matt Hambidge (So.-St. Paul, Minn./Cretin-Derham Hall) won in the No. 6 spot against the same team. In Eau Claire, Ben Robertson (Fr.-Plymouth, Minn./Robbinsdale Armstrong) won in the No. 4 spot while Joe Sladky (Fr.-Brookfield, Wis./MUHS) also won at No. 6 against Lakeland College. The Blugolds also had four 8-0 wins over the weekend in doubles competition. Eau Claire will take next weekend off and will be back in action on March 20 with two meets in Rock Island, Ill. Action will get underway at 9 a.m. against Augustana, and the team will wrap up the day against Monmouth at noon. |
