(UWECBlugolds.com) - Beth Dittrich (Sr.-Roseville, Minn./Roseville Area) has been named the 2010 Northern Collegiate Hockey Association (NCHA) Scholar-Athlete while four others were named to the NCHA All-Academic Team, conference sports information director Brian Monahan announced today. Dittrich is an elementary education major with a 3.87 GPA. She scored 12 goals and had 17 assists for 29 points, second best on the team. She finished her career second on the Blugolds' all-time scoring list with 76 points, first with 12 game-winning goals in her career, and tied for first with 44 career assists. She also set a single-season school record for most assists this year. Dittrich, a member of the 2010 All-NCHA team, was also named to the NCHA All-Academic team for the second time in her career. She is the second Blugold to be named the NCHA Scholar-Athlete as Amanda Schultz was selected in 2006. Kelli Johnson (Jr.-Farmington, Minn.) and Shannon Nelson (Sr.-Blaine, Minn.) were named to the All-Academic team for the second time in their careers. Johnson, a nursing major with a 3.44 GPA, picked up 15 points for the Blugolds from five goals and 10 assists. She had three power-play goals on the season. Nelson, a psychology major with a 3.38 GPA, had 10 points on the season from three goals and seven assists. She scored the Blugolds' lone goal in the season finale to end her career. Also receiving honors for the first time in their careers were Kristin Faber (Jr.-Austin, Minn.) and Rita Simones (Jr.-Rosemount, Minn./South St. Paul). Faber, a physical education major with a 3.39 GPA, led the Blugolds this season in scoring with 34 points. She had a team-best 19 goals while also finishing with 15 assists. The 34 points and 19 goals is a school record in each category for most in a season. Faber currently has 81 career points, which is a school record. She also earned All-NCHA honors this season. Simones, a nursing major with a 3.25 GPA, had 13 points from one goal and 12 assists. She was part of a defense that allowed just 728 shots on the season while the Blugolds accumulated 808. |
