(UWECBlugolds.com) - UW-Eau Claire wrestler Andy Johnston (Sr.-St. Cloud, Minn./Tech) is ready to compete in the 2010 NCAA Division III Wrestling Championship, which will be contested this Friday and Saturday in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Johnston, who will wrestle at 149 pounds after being one of the WIAC's nine wild-card picks for the championship, will open competition with a match against second-ranked Tony Valek of Augsburg College (Minn.). The two have already faced each other once this year in a dual meet at Augsburg. Johnston came up short against Valek 8-2. Johnston comes into the weekend having won his last three matches and nine out the last 11. He holds a 27-9 record this season and a 98-45 career record. This will be the 11th season in a row the Blugolds have sent an individual to the NCAA Championship. Last season, Josh Holforty was a wild-card selection from the WIAC at 197 pounds and went on to take third at nationals. |
