Thu, Dec 5, 2024 No Event(s) Scheduled For Selected Date Women's Hockey Comes Up Short at Superior By: BJ Pickard, Sports Information Student SUPERIOR, Wis. (UWECBlugolds.com) - The UW-Eau Claire women's hockey team fell to UW-Superior 2-1 in Friday's Northern Collegiate Hockey Association matchup at Wessman Arena. Superior's puck control made the difference in the game, as the Yellowjacket allowed only nine Blugold shots on goal, a season-low, in the matchup. The loss puts the Blugolds at 12-9-3 overall and 7-6-2 in NCHA play, while Superior improves to 14-8-2 overall and 8-5-2 in conference play. Eau Claire drew first blood when Katie Ward (So.-Andover, Minn./Coon Rapids) scored 6:13 into the second period. The goal was the second of Ward's career. Dani Kerr (Fr.-Little Canada, Minn./Roseville) and Allison Malecek (Fr.-Maple Plain, Minn./Delano) were credited with assists on the play. Two quick third period goals from the Yellowjackets, however, would prove to be too much to overcome. Danika Porter (Jr.-Rosemount, Minn./South St. Paul) defended the goal the entire night for the Blugolds collecting 28 saves and allowing the two goals. Eau Claire committed three penalties for six minutes, while Superior ended with one for two minutes. The Blugolds have a shot at redemption in a 2 p.m. rematch with Superior tomorrow at Wessman Arena. |
