MADISON, Wis. (UWECBlugolds.com) - UW-Eau Claire men's hockey player Brant Marple (Sr.-Apple Valley, Minn./Eastview) and women's track and field member Hayley Suckow (Sr.-Elk Mound, Wis.) have earned Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) athlete of the week honors, conference sports information director Matt Stanek announced today.
Marple recorded three assists during the weekend as the Blugolds went unbeaten in two games. Against UW-Superior on Feb. 13, Marple assisted on all three goals in a 3-3 tie. He has a team-leading 13 assists on the season. UW-Eau Claire also upset No. 4-ranked College of St. Scholastica (Minn.) on Feb. 12.
Winning the pole vault at the UW-Platteville Invitational on Feb. 13, Suckow set a facility record as she finished with a height of 12-7 1/2 (3.85 meters), just one and three-quarters of an inch short of a school record. The facility record that she broke was 3.66 meters. Suckow's performance ranks as the third-best mark in the country this season and automatically qualified her for the NCAA Division III Championship.
