(UWECBlugolds.com) - The UW-Eau Claire softball team is ranked 21st in the National Fastpitch Coaches Association Top 25 Preseason Poll, the association recently announced. This year's preseason poll is topped by defending national champion Messiah College (Pa.), which received all eight first-place votes. The Blugolds are scheduled to face at least five teams that appeared in the preseason poll during the regular season. The Blugolds are coming off a season where they appeared in the NCAA Tournament for the fourth year in a row and finished with a record of 28-16. Last season they went 1-2 in regional competition, being eliminated by Whitewater, which is ranked ninth in the preseason poll. The season before, the Blugolds were national champions while they finished third the previous season. Eau Claire will open its season March 12 in Panama City Beach, Fla. with six games at the NFCA Lead-Off Classic. The Blugolds will open their home schedule April 7 while conference action will begin the following day in River Falls. The NCAA Division III Championship will be contested May 21-25 at Gelein Field in Eau Claire. The first regular season NFCA Division III Top 25 Poll will be released March 3. |
