(UWECBlugolds.com) - The UW-Eau Claire women's hockey team completed the series sweep over Finlandia University (Mich.) with a 4-0 victory at Hobbs Ice Center today. The shutout win is the fifth on the season for Eau Claire, its most shutouts in single season in school history. The Blugolds are now 12-8-3 overall and 7-5-2 in Northern Collegiate Hockey Association (NCHA) play. Finlandia drops to 5-18 on the season and 1-3 in the NCHA. Beth Dittrich (Sr.-Roseville, Minn./Roseville Area) and Taylor Jenkins (So.-Austin, Minn.) both recorded three points today, with Dittrich scoring two goals while picking up an assist and Jenkins scoring one goal and securing two assists. Dittrich's assist set a new school record for most in a season with 17. She also now has 44 in her career, which is tied for a school record with Lauren Havard. Jenkins opened scoring at 8:12 in the first period with a power-play goal on assists from Jackie McKay (So.-Franklin Park, Ill./East Leyden) and Dittrich. Christine Dickinson (Jr.-Layton, Utah/Shattuck-St. Mary's) added another goal five minutes later with an assist from Rita Simones to give Eau Claire the 2-0 lead. Dittrich then went on to score in each of the next two periods with Jenkins assisting on both and McKay assisting on the game's final goal. Dittrich is now tied with two others for second place for most points in a career with 75. Kristin Faber (Jr.-Austin, Minn.) holds the school record with 80. Dittrich also has 28 points this season, which is the second most in a season, topped only by Faber's 33 this year. The two teams combined for 20 penalties with Eau Claire committing 11, tying for the second-most in a game in program history. Finlandia finished 0-for-11 on power-plays while the Blugolds went 2-for-8. Mara Stormer (Fr.-Waunakee, Wis.) picked up the win for Eau Claire between the pipes as she stopped 30 Lion shots. She is now 2-0 on the season. Finlandia's Ashley Pavlish stopped 27 of Eau Claire's 31 shots. The Blugolds will wrap up the regular season next weekend with two games at UW-Superior. The Blugolds will face the Yellowjackets at 7 p.m. Friday and 2 p.m. Saturday. |
