(UWECBlugolds.com) - The UW-Eau Claire wrestling team won just one match as it fell 40-3 to 22nd-ranked UW-Stevens Point in a Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) dual at the McPhee Physical Education Center today. The Blugolds drop to 1-18 in dual meets on the season and 0-5 in WIAC duals while the Pointers improve to 10-12 overall and 3-2 in the WIAC. Andy Johnston (Sr.-St. Cloud, Minn./Tech) recorded the Blugolds' lone victory, winning the 149-pound match 4-2 over Kris Magruder. He has now won six out of his last seven matches. Jon Ames (Sr.-Genoa, Wis./Viroqua) almost got the pin against Ben Strobel in the final seconds of the 157-pound match but ended up falling just short 6-5. The Blugolds will now head to the WIAC Championship, which is slated for Sunday (Feb. 21) in Stevens Point.
