EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (UWECBlugolds.com) - Geoff Probst (Sr.-Moose Lake, Minn.) went over the 1,000-point mark in his career as the UW-Eau Claire men's basketball team defeated UW-Platteville 79-70 at Zorn Arena tonight.

Probst, who led the Blugolds with 29 points tonight, now has 1,006 for his career. He is tied for 39th on the Blugolds' all-time scoring list with Chuckie Graves, who played from 1985 to 1987. Probst also finished with a double-double as he had 10 rebounds.

The Blugolds have now won three games in a row and four out of the last five as they improve to 14-7 overall and 6-6 in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC). Platteville drops to 12-9 on the year and 6-6 in WIAC play.

The Blugolds started off slow tonight and Platteville built a nine-point lead at one point in the first half. The Pioneers held a six-point lead at the break.

Eau Claire opened the second half on a 5-0 run to tie the game up and the teams battled for a few more minutes before the Blugolds took the lead for good with less than 15 minutes to go. Eau Claire would go up by 10 points five times the rest of the way and the closest Platteville got after Eau Claire was up by 10 the first time was eight points.

While the Blugolds were outrebounded for the second game in a row, 31-29, they shot very well from the floor, going 29-for-50 (58.0 percent). It was their second best shooting performance of the year, eclipsed only by their mark of 58.5 percent against Puget Sound (Wash.) in a 91-77 win on November 28.

Eau Claire also turned the ball over just eight times, one more than its season low of seven, to Platteville's 10. Eau Claire scored 14 points off turnovers while the Pioneers had nine.

Amadou Fofana (Jr.-Appleton, Wis./West) and Josh Prince (So.-Chippewa Falls, Wis./Chi-Hi) both finished with 16 points while Colin Boone (Sr.-Eau Claire, Wis./Memorial) had a game-high seven assists.

The Blugolds will be back on the road Wednesday when they travel to UW-Stevens Point to face the Pointers. Action will get underway at 7 p.m.
