STEVENS POINT - The UW-Eau Claire men's hockey team fell 7-3 to UW-Stevens Point here tonight at K.B. Willett Arena.

The Blugolds jumped out to the early lead scoring 5:08 into the game. Sean Clark (Jr.-Royal Oak, MI/Brother Rice) scored his first goal of the year off a pass from Rob Ouimette (Sr.-Iron Bridge, ONT/Leamington District).

After a Pointer goal, Eau Claire jumped back in front off Matt Finley's (Fr.-Wheatbridge, CO/Ralston Valley) second goal of the year. Finley took a pass from Kyle Garner (So.-Sun Prairie) to take advantage of a power play.

Stevens Point owned the second period scoring four unanswered goals to take a 5-2 lead into the final period. The Pointers scored in bunches in the second period scoring the first two goals of the period 37 seconds apart and the second two goals 24 seconds apart.

The Blugolds allowed two power play goals in the third period to fall behind 7-2. Eau Claire cut it to 7-3 with less than two minutes remaining when Ouimette scored his team-best 14th goal of the year.

Eau Claire was outshot 46-28 in the game with Steffan Braunlich (Jr.-Playa del Rey, CA/Loyola) stopping 29 shots and Chris Nelson (Jr.-Madison/Memorial) stopped 10.

The Blugolds committed 13 penalties while the Pointers committed 18. Eau Claire was only able to take advantage in 2 of 12 power plays while Stevens Point converted on 3 of 7 power plays.

The loss drops the Blugolds to 5-4-2 while the Pointers improve to 8-4-1 on the year.

Eau Claire will be in action next when they host Stevens Point tomorrow night at Hobbs Ice Arena. The game is scheduled to begin at 7:05 p.m.
