By: Kevin Meinholz, Sports Information Director
LAKE FOREST, Ill. (UWECBlugolds.com) - Kristin Faber (Jr.-Austin, Minn.) set a new school record for most points in a career as she recorded two assists in the UW-Eau Claire women's hockey team's 7-4 loss at Lake Forest College (Ill.) today.
The Blugolds got on the board at 9:47 in the first period to take a 1-0 lead. Beth Dittrich (Sr.-Roseville, Minn./Roseville Area) recorded the short-handed goal while Faber was credited with the assist, tying the school record for most points in a career. Faber now has 76 points (44 goals, 32 assists). She also holds the record for most points and most goals in a season, with 29 and 18, respectively.
Despite the Blugolds getting up early, Lake Forest came storming back, scoring twice before the end of the first period and once in the second before the Blugolds found the back of the Forester's net for the second time of the night. Christine Dickinson (Jr.-Layton, Utah/Shattuck-St. Mary's) gave the Blugolds their second goal at the 11:09 mark in the second to cut Lake Forest's lead back to one, but the Foresters added another before the end of the period to go back up by two.
The teams combined for five goals in the third period, with Eau Claire scoring twice, both on power-plays, and Lake Forest scoring three times. Taylor Jenkins (So.-Austin, Minn.) scored at 3:30 in the third with assists from Jackie McKay (So.-Franklin Park, Ill./East Leyden) and Faber but Lake Forest added two more to make the score 6-3. Dittrich then picked up her second goal of the day at 15:51 with assists from Kelli Johnson (Jr.-Farmington, Minn.) and McKay. Lake Forest added the final goal at 18:47 on an empty Blugold net.
Lake Forest outshot the Blugolds 32-16, the largest margin a team has outshot the Blugolds by this season.
Danika Porter (Jr.-Rosemount, Minn./South St. Paul) and Nicole Lence (Jr.-St. Paul Park, Minn./Park) each played today for Eau Claire in the goal. Lence started and picked up 12 saves while allowing four goals in 38:05 while Porter was in the game for 21:27, stopping 13 shots and allowing two goals. Porter received the loss for Eau Claire.
The Blugolds will be back at home Friday and Saturday when they host UW-Stevens Point. Action will get underway at 7 p.m. both nights.
