Sat, May 18, 2013 No Event(s) Scheduled For Selected Date Men's Swimming & Diving Comes up Just Short Against Whitewater By: Matt Troge, Sports Information Student EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (UWECBlugolds.com) - The UW-Eau Claire men's swimming and diving team lost a close meet today against UW-Whitewater at the McPhee Physical Education Center. The Warhawks edged the Blugolds by merely three points, taking the competition 121-118. The Blugolds had six first place finishes and seven second place finishes on the day, while the Warhawks ended with seven first place finishes. Jonathan Poppele (So.-Maple Grove, Minn./Wayzata) took first place in the 200-yard individual medley with a final time of 2:01.33 while also taking the top spot in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 55.27 seconds. Ben Macalalad (Jr.-Wausau, Wis./East) finished first in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 4:57.73 while Corey Groshens (Fr.-St. Louis Park, Minn./Hopkins) crossed the finish line first in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:01.55. On the diving end, Nick Badilla (Fr.-Appleton, Wis./North) led the way for the Blugolds as he took first place in the three-meter diving event with a final score of 271.55 while also taking first in the one-meter diving event with a final score of 239.60. The Blugolds will now prepare for the WIAC Championships which will be contested Feb. 11-13 in Minneapolis, Minn. |
