LAKE FOREST, Ill. (UWECBlugolds.com) - The UW-Eau Claire women's hockey team got down early and was unable to recover as it fell to conference-leader Lake Forest College (Ill.) 5-2 at Alumni Memorial Rink today.

The Blugolds (9-6-3, 4-3-2 NCHA) got behind by three goals before they were able to find the back of the Forester net. Lake Forest (14-2-2, 8-1-2 NCHA) scored once in the first and twice in the second before the Blugolds tried to start a comeback in the third period.

Down 3-0, Meghan Lorenz (Jr.-Minnetonka, Minn./Wayzata) scored the Blugolds' first goal at 6:32 in the third on a power-play with an assist from Toni Simones (So.-Rosemount, Minn./South St. Paul). It took Lake Forest just nine seconds to answer and push its lead back to three goals.

Late in the third, at 17:31, Allison Malecek (Fr.-Maple Plain, Minn./Delano) scored the Blugolds' second goal, also her second of the year, with the assist once again coming from Simones. However, the Foresters once again quickly responded, scoring the games' final goal on an empty net at 18:09 to help secure the win.

The Blugolds outshot Lake Forest 24-22. It was just the second time this season the Blugolds outshot their opponent but lost the game.

Danika Porter (Jr.-Rosemount, Minn./South St. Paul) was between the pipes for all but 23 seconds, recording 17 saves and allowing four goals. Alyssa Wintermute played all 60 minutes in-goal for Lake Forest and stopped 22 shots.

The Blugolds will try and even out the weekend series tomorrow when they face Lake Forest once again at Alumni Memorial Rink at 2 p.m.
