(UWECBlugolds.com) - The UW-Eau Claire women's basketball team was defeated by UW-Oshkosh 67-58 Wednesday night at Kolf Sports Center. With the loss, the Blugolds fall to 7-12 overall and 6-4 in conference play. UWEC led most of the first half and was up 42-40 in the second half before UW-Oshkosh went on a 17-4 scoring run to take a 57-46 lead with 7:04 remaining in the game. The Titans bested the Blugolds by shooting 48.8 percent (20-for-41) from the field, 50 percent (9-for-18) from beyond the arc and 75 percent (18-for-24) from the free throw line. Eau Claire shot 40.4 percent (23-for-57) on the night, their worst shooting percentage since the end of December, 30.8 percent (4-for-13) from behind the three-point line and 61.5 percent (8-for-13) from the free throw line. Hannah Mesick (Jr.-Chatfield, Minn.) led the Blugolds with 16 points. Tonight was the first time Mesick was held under 20 points since January 6. Ellen Plendl (So.-Chippewa Falls, Wis./McDonell) and Sarah Bingea (Fr.-Delano, Minn.) both added 13 and Plendl collected a game-high nine rebounds. She also added three blocks and two steals on the night. The Blugolds have been steadily improving on their turnover troubles lately, and they committed a season-low 11 tonight. The Blugolds return home to celebrate Team Night on February 3, which also starts a three-game home stand. They will face off with UW-River Falls at Zorn Arena with tipoff scheduled for 7 p.m. next Wednesday to start the home stand. |
