Sat, May 25, 2013 No Event(s) Scheduled For Selected Date Johnston Leads Wrestlers at Dan Gable Open By: Kevin Meinholz, Sports Information Director OSHKOSH, Wis. (UWECBlugolds.com) - Andy Johnston (Sr.-St. Cloud, Minn./Tech) recorded a second place finish to lead the UW-Eau Claire wrestling team at the 2010 Dan Gable Open today. Wrestling at 149 pounds, Johnston opened the day pinning Pat Konrad of UW-Stevens Point in 3:20 and then faced Trevor Dyreson from UW-Oshkosh, who he defeated 9-2. To finish off the day, Johnston fell just short of winning the title as he lost 4-3 to UW-Madison's Shawn Perry in the championship match. Zach Weisenberger (So.-Ladysmith, Wis.) also had a good day for the Blugolds as he took fourth place at 141 pounds. He finished 2-2 on the day. At 125 pounds, JT Bernstein (Jr.-Highland Park, Ill.) finished fifth as did Joshua Baier (Fr.-Inver Grove Heights, Minn./Rosemount) at 141 and Jon Ames (Sr.-Genoa, Wis./Viroqua) at 157. The Blugolds will be back on the mat this Thursday (Jan. 21) when they face UW-Platteville in Platteville. Action will get underway at 7 p.m. |
