Thu, Dec 5, 2024 No Event(s) Scheduled For Selected Date Faber Ties School Record with Four Goals as Blugolds Skate Past Augsburg By: BJ Pickard, Sports Information Student EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (UWECBlugolds.com) - The UW-Eau Claire women's hockey team defeated Augsburg College (Minn.) by a score of 8-2 at Hobbs Ice Center tonight. With the win, the Blugolds improve to 9-5-1 overall. They are also 4-2-0 in the Northern Collegiate Hockey Association (NCHA), in second place. The Blugolds started off slow, going scoreless in the first period. But, at 9:40 in the second, Dani Kerr (Fr.-Little Canada, Minn./Roseville) scored a power-play goal off a Kelli Johnson (Jr.-Farmington, Minn.) pass. Five minutes later, Kristin Faber (Jr.-Austin, Minn.) scored the first of her four goals on the night. Augsburg would score at 15:54, but less than a minute later, Christine Dickinson (Jr.-Layton, Utah/Shattuck-St. Mary's) scored her 11th goal of the season to put the Blugolds up 3-1 going into the third period. Eau Claire would go on to dominate the rest of the matchup, scoring five goals in the final period of play. At 1:17, Meghan Lorenz (Jr.-Minnetonka, Minn./Wayzata) and Rita Simones (Jr.-Rosemount, Minn./South St. Paul) assisted Shannon Nelson (Sr.-Blaine, Minn.) for her first goal of the year. A minute later, Simones would score her first goal of the season, unassisted. Faber went on to score the Blugolds final three goals of the evening, giving her a team-high 15 goals on the season, and tying a school record for most goals in a single game with four. Augsburg managed a power-play goal at 14:13, but it would be too little, too late for the Auggies, who were outshot 62-15 in the game. The 62 shot total is the second highest in school history. The record 70 was set earlier this year against Marian University. In Wednesday's game, both teams came away with four penalties for eight minutes and both finished one-for-three on power-plays. Nicole Lence (Jr.-St. Paul Park, Minn./Park) improved to 5-3-0 as the Blugolds' goalie. Lence played all 60 minutes allowing two goals and recording 13 saves on the night. Augsburg's Toni Menth played the entire game for the Auggies, collecting 54 saves and allowing eight goals. The Blugolds next travel to River Falls for a two-game showdown with the Falcons. The first matchup is scheduled for Friday, January 15. The puck is scheduled to drop at 7:05 p.m. both nights. |
