Sat, May 18, 2013 No Event(s) Scheduled For Selected Date Women's Hockey To Host Superior, River Falls Posted: Wednesday, December 8, 2004 EAU CLAIRE - The UW-Eau Claire women's hockey team will host 9th-ranked UW-Superior and 10th-ranked UW-River Falls this weekend at Hobbs Ice Center. The Blugolds come into the weekend with a 3-2-1 overall record and 0-0-1 in the Northern Collegiate Hockey Association. Eau Claire opened the NCHA season with a 2-2 tie to Lake Forest. Amanda Schultz (Jr.-Stevens Point/SPASH) scored a goal and assisted on another in the game. Schultz leads the Blugolds in points in the early going four goals and an assist. Four other players have three points on the year. Jill Arendt (Fr.-Plymouth, MN/Wayzata) has been solid in goal allowing only 2.17 goals a game while stopping 91.5 percent of the shots sent her way. The Blugolds open up against the weekend against Superior. Eau Claire has beaten the Yellowjackets only once in 18 contests dating back to 2000. The Blugolds struggled against the Superior defense getting only 53 shots off in three games while allowing 125 shots on goal. Superior comes in with a 5-1-1 record following a 4-1 defeat of Lake Forest last weekend. The Yellowjacket's only loss came in a 5-4 loss to St. Olaf. Erin Kegley is the catalyst for the Superior attack with 10 goals on only 14 shots. Kegley has also assisted on five goals. Goalie Kristy Faechner has been solid in goal going 5-0-1 saving nearly 94 percent of shots. Eau Claire will battle the Falcons of River Falls the following afternoon. The Blugolds have yet to defeat River Falls going 0-14-3 dating back to 2000. The Falcons outscored Eau Claire 27-7 in five games last year River Falls comes into the contest 7-2-0 overall and 3-0-0 in the NCHA. The Falcons lead a very balanced offensive attack with three players tying for the team lead in points. Lou Paulson, Lindsay O?Keefe and Jenny Wallace all have scored 11 points while Paulson and O?Keefe lead the team in goals with six a piece. Marlene Yaeger has logged a majority of the minutes in goal allowing only 1.17 goals a game while stopping over 95 percent of the shots sent her way. The Friday night game against Superior is scheduled to face off at 7:05 p.m. while Saturday's game against River Falls is set to begin at 2:05 p.m. - JL - |
