Tue, May 21, 2013 No Event(s) Scheduled For Selected Date Wrestling Defeated By No. 2-Ranked Augsburg By: BJ Pickard, Sports Information Student MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. (UWECBlugolds.com) - The UW-Eau Claire wrestling team was defeated by Augsburg College (Minn.) 42-0 at Si Melby Hall on Sunday afternoon. Augsburg, ranked second in the nation in Division III according to the latest National Wrestling Coaches Association rankings, claimed all ten matches on the day. The Blugolds challenged the Auggies in several weight classes but couldn't pull off victories. Leading the Blugolds were Zach Weisenberger (So.-Ladysmith, Wis.), who lost a tough match in the 141 class 8-4 and Andy Johnston (Sr.-St. Cloud, Minn./Tech), who fell 8-2 in the 149 class. Johnston's opponent, Tony Valek, is ranked third in the nation at 149 pounds. The Auggies are now 3-0 in dual meets this season while the Blugolds drop to 0-11. The Blugolds take on St. Olaf College (Minn.) and Itasca Community College (Minn.) on Saturday Jan. 9 at the McPhee Physical Education Center. The event is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. |
