(UWECBlugolds.com) - For the second night in a row, the UW-Eau Claire women's hockey team defeated Marian University by a score of 9-0 at Hobbs Ice Center. The Blugolds improve to 6-4-1 overall and 4-2-0 in the Northern Collegiate Hockey Association (NCHA). Eau Claire sits in second place in the NCHA and is just two points behind leader Lake Forest College (Ill.), which also has four wins. Marian University falls to 1-6 overall and 1-3 in NCHA play. The Blugolds started the game off slow, scoring just once. Toni Simones (So.-Rosemount, Minn./South St. Paul) found the back of the net for the eventual game-winner with assists from Christine Dickinson (Jr.-Layton, Utah/Shattuck-St. Mary's) and Rita Simones (Jr.-Rosemount, Minn./South St. Paul) at 9:20. The second and third periods yielded four goals each for Eau Claire. Kristin Faber (Jr.-Austin, Minn.) scored once in the second and twice in the third to secure her hat-trick. She now has 10 goals on the season. Emily Haluska (Fr.-Stevens Point, Wis./SPASH) found the net twice in the second period while Beth Dittrich (Sr.-Roseville, Minn./Roseville Area), Kelli Johnson (Jr.-Farmington, Minn.) and Meghan Lorenz (Jr.-Minnetonka, Minn./Wayzata) all scored once for the Blugolds. The teams combined for just five penalties on the night, three by Eau Claire in the first period and two by Marian in the second. Eau Claire set a new school record with 70 shots on goal. The previous high was 59 against Finlandia University on January 12, 2008. The Blugolds came up with 57 shots last night. Marian used three different goalies to try and stop Eau Claire tonight. Nicole Lence (Jr.-St. Paul Park, Minn./Park) was in the net for Eau Claire the entire 60 minutes and faced just six shots, stopping all of them. Eau Claire will now take some time off and will next be on the ice in the new year. The Blugolds will start a four-game home stand January 2 when they face St. Olaf College (Minn.). Action will get underway at 7 p.m. |
