Sat, May 25, 2013 No Event(s) Scheduled For Selected Date Women's Cross Country Announces Team Award Winners By: Kevin Meinholz, Sports Information Director EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (UWECBlugolds.com) - UW-Eau Claire women's cross country coach Dan Schwamberger announced the 2009 team award winners recently at the team's banquet. Alyssa Sybilrud (So.-Savage, Minn./Burnsville), who earned the team's most valuable freshman award last season, was named this year's Most Valuable Runner. She had the Blugolds' best finish at nationals as she took 21st overall, helping lead the Blugolds to a national title. Her highest finish of the season came at the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championship when she took second overall as Eau Claire won. Earning this year's most valuable freshman honor was Nicole Blahnik (Fr.-Antigo, Wis.). She competed in six of the Blugolds' 10 events with her highest finish coming at the Blugolds' Lake Wissota Meet where she took third. Margaret Ho (Jr.-Wisconsin Rapids, Wis./Lincoln) was selected as the Most Valuable Newcomer. She competed in seven events this year, including being one of seven individuals to compete at the national meet. Ho took 33rd overall at nationals, Eau Claire's second highest finisher. Kacey Rindy (So.-Fennimore, Wis.) was this year's most improved recipient while Kelly Palmer (Sr.-Chanhassen, Minn./Chaska) was presented with the Blugold Award. Rindy competed at the national championship and was 138th overall and Palmer competed in seven of Eau Claire's 10 events. Hannah Humbach (Sr.-Madison, Wis./Abundant Life), who ran at nationals and took 45th overall, was presented with a four-year letterwinner award. |
