(UWECBlugolds.com) - UW-Eau Claire volleyball coach Kim Wudi announced the team award winners for the 2009 season recently at the team's banquet. Kristen Moore (Sr.-Green Bay, Wis./Ashwaubenon) led the awards as she was selected as both the Most Valuable Player and Offensive Most Valuable Player. Moore was selected as an American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) All-Midwest Region honorable mention recipient while leading the Blugolds with a first team All-Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) selection. For the season, she led the Blugolds with a .310 hitting percentage and finished with 239 kills and 83 blocks, both of which were third best on the team. Earning defensive most valuable player honors was Lindsey Smith (Sr.-Maple Lake, Minn.). She led Eau Claire and was eighth in the WIAC with 3.74 kills per set this season while totaling 359 kills with 96 sets played. She also had 26 services aces, third most on the team. The newcomer of the year award was presented to Emily Neave (Fr.-Salem, Wis./Westosha Central), who led the Blugolds with 870 assists. She averaged 7.37 assists per set, which was fifth best in the WIAC, while also coming up with 251 digs and 23 service aces. Katie Wall (So.-Madison, Wis./La Follette) was selected as the team's most improved player. She saw action in 28 of the Blugolds' 39 matches this season and was fifth on the team with a .235 kill percentage and totaled 75 kills. A season ago she competed in 14 matches and had a .128 kill percentage with 18 kills. Cassie Hunt (Sr.-Chippewa Falls, Wis./McDonell) earned the Blugold Award while the Coaches' Award went to Jenny Burzynski (So.-Stanley, Wis./Stanley-Boyd). Hunt earned WIAC All-Sportsmanship Team honors this year and was named to the CoSIDA/ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District 5 College Division third team. |
